Policies and procedures
We aim to make St Nicholas' Church a welcoming and safe place to visit and worship. To help us achieve this, there are a number of policies and considerations which have been approved by the PCC. Along with the Safeguarding policy, please note the following:
Lone working
At St Nicholas' Church we are committed to promoting a safer church for children, young people and vulnerable adults. This policy has been devised alongside the safeguarding guidance of the Church of England, including the House of Bishops’ safeguarding guidance and Code of Safer Working Practice. Lone working policy.
Making a complaint
The PCC of St Nicholas’ is committed to fostering a welcoming, respectful and Christ-centred community. We recognise that, despite our best intentions, concerns or complaints may arise. This policy explains how concerns will be handled fairly, promptly and transparently. Our aim is to resolve issues wherever possible through respectful dialogue and reconciliation, whilst ensuring that all complaints are considered objectively and consistently. Complaints policy.
Dogs in church
The PCC of St Nicholas’ Church is committed to ensuring that the church building is a safe, welcoming and well-maintained space for worship, community activities and visitors. This policy applies to all visitors and users of the building. Whilst we are fond of the 'four-legged friend', we acknowledge that our ancient church building is generally not an appropriate place for them to be, though we make an exception for assistance dogs. Dogs policy.
Other safety considerations
We welcome all people, of all abilities and welcome wheelchair, pushchairs and small motor scooters. Where possible, we do ask that these are left at the back of the church, so as not to obstruct walkways and exits. We would politely ask that wheelchair and motor scooter users take due care and consideration when using the aid in the church, as to not cause injury to other persons or damage to the fabric and content of the building. If you require assistance, please ask one of the Welcome Team or Vergers for help.
